Why visible security deters, and hidden security protects

A security system does two things: deter (visible camera, alarm box, motion lights make burglars look elsewhere), and catch (if someone ignores the deterrent, you have evidence and alert capability). The best systems do both — HD CCTV is visible *and* records, motion lights light up *and* deter, alarm boxes are obvious *and* the alarm is real. A system that's only visible (a fake camera) is useless; a system that's only hidden (no deterrent) means the burglar doesn't realize they're being recorded until it's too late.

What we design

CCTV: HD or 4K cameras at entry points (front door, back gate, garage) and valuable areas (patio, driveway). Storage on a local NVR (network video recorder) so you own the footage, not a cloud service. App access so you view live feed from your phone. Intruder alarms: Door/window sensors, motion detectors, and a control panel so you arm/disarm on entry. Alerts to your phone if something triggers. Motion lights: PIR-activated floods at entry points and blind spots — if someone approaches at night, lights blaze on and the deterrent is massive. Integration: Modern systems tie together so triggering an alarm also logs camera footage and sends you phone alerts with video clips.

Cost and complexity

A basic system (4 cameras, motion lights, control panel, 1-month storage): £1,500–2,500. A comprehensive system (6+ cameras, alarm, multiple motion lights, 12-month storage, monitoring service): £3,000–5,000+. Installation is usually a day or two depending on cable routing and mounting complexity.

Monitoring and notifications

Most people opt for self-monitoring (you get notifications and review footage on your phone) rather than paying for a monitoring centre to dispatch police. Self-monitoring is immediate and includes video evidence, making police response faster when needed. You're the first responder, which is powerful.

Peace of mind and insurance

A visible, working security system drops your home insurance premiums by 5–10% on average. That often pays back the installation cost within 3–5 years. It also genuinely changes how you feel — you can leave home without wondering if something happened while you were away.
