Customer EV charging: why it matters
EV drivers actively search for charging while shopping — offering chargers turns a 30-minute errand into a 2-hour shopping trip. A forecourt, retail park, or hotel with chargers becomes a destination; one without it loses customers. A broken charger is worse than no charger — broken=customer frustration+bad reviews. Working chargers drive loyalty.
Charger types and revenue
7kW chargers (slow, 6–8 hours to full) suit retail/hospitality where customers park 2+ hours anyway. 22kW or 50kW rapid chargers suit forecourts where people want 30 minutes refuel. Each charger generates revenue via payment integration — typically 25–35p/kWh, plus merchant fees. A charger averaging 3–4 uses/day generates £500–1000/month in revenue.
Siting and visibility
Location matters hugely. Close to the entrance (so customers see them), not tucked away. Visible, reliable, and working = people tell others. We assess your parking layout, power availability, and sight lines so chargers are actually discoverable and usable.
Durability and maintenance
Public chargers face wear: weather, accidents, attempted theft, vandalism. We specify industrial-grade units (not cheap consumer ones) and build in monitoring so faults are caught immediately. A broken charger costs you revenue plus reputation — preventive maintenance is worth it.
