Power gone? Burning smell? Breaker that won’t reset? Our emergency electricians respond fast, day or night, to make your home safe and get the problem fixed.
When electrical problems can't wait
Most electrical failures happen at the worst times — night, weekend, during a family gathering. A burning smell from a socket, a breaker that won't stay on, a circuit that's dead, water damage near wiring, or flickering lights that won't stabilize all need immediate attention. The danger is real (burning smell = potential fire; dead circuit = something has failed catastrophically), and waiting until Monday isn't safe. Our emergency response gets a qualified electrician to you quickly, day or night, 365 days a year.
Our emergency process
Step 1 — Safety first: We arrive and immediately isolate any obvious hazards (dangerous sockets switched off, breaker isolated if it's tripping dangerously). Step 2 — Diagnosis: Test circuits systematically to find the fault. Is the problem the socket? The circuit? The board? The incoming supply? Guessing wastes time. Step 3 — Explanation: Tell you clearly what's failed, why, and what it'll cost to fix. No surprises, no pressure. Step 4 — Repair: Once you've agreed, we fix it properly (not a temporary tape-and-hope) and test. You get a receipt and explanation of what was wrong.
Common emergency calls (and why they're urgent)
Burning smell from a socket: Insulation is melting; fire risk is real. Turn off and call immediately. Breaker won't stay on: A circuit has a fault (short or overload). Keep trying the breaker and you risk a fire; the breaker is doing its job by tripping. Call us instead. Whole-house power loss: Could be the incoming supply, the main breaker, or something connected to the outside. Don't poke; call us. Water and electrics: If water has reached a socket, switch everything off at the consumer unit immediately, leave everything off, and call us. Electrocution risk: If anyone's been shocked, call 999 first, then us for the electrical investigation.
Response time and cost
We aim to respond within 60 minutes of call for genuine emergencies across Norfolk and Suffolk. Out-of-hours callouts (6pm-8am, weekends, bank holidays) have an additional charge (typically £80–120 on top of labour), but that's unavoidable — it costs us to staff night and weekend coverage. No hidden extras; we quote before proceeding with any repair beyond making safe.
What to do while waiting
If it's a burning smell: switch off at the consumer unit and don't use that circuit. If it's a tripping breaker: don't keep resetting it (you're overriding the protection). If it's power loss: check with neighbours (is it just your house or the street?). If it's water damage: don't use anything connected to wet areas — call us before touching anything. If it's safe: switch the circuit off and leave it off until we arrive.
Fair pricing, no exploiting emergencies
Our out-of-hours pricing is transparent — we charge for the time we spend, not for the fact that you need help at midnight. We've never charged £500 for a £60 repair just because it's Sunday. Fair is fair, even in an emergency.
