From LED downlights to feature pendants and smart switches, we install indoor lighting that looks great and works flawlessly — tidy cabling, no mess left behind, and proper certification.
Why lighting matters more than you think
Poor lighting makes a room feel smaller, darker and less welcoming. The right lighting scheme makes it feel spacious, warm and properly functional. The problem: most homes use one ceiling light per room, which is either too bright when you're relaxing or too dim when you're working. The solution is layered lighting — ambient (fills the room), task (where you actually work or read), and accent (highlights features) — so you have the right amount of light for whatever you're doing, and you're never wasting electricity lighting empty space.
LED changes everything
LED downlights and spotlights use about 75% less energy than halogen equivalents, generate almost no heat, last 15–25 years (vs 2 years for halogen), and produce warmer, more flattering light. A typical kitchen rewired with 10 LED downlights instead of 10 halogens saves roughly £30–40/year in electricity — which adds up over the 20-year lifespan of the lights. Plus, you'll stop having to climb a ladder every few months to replace blown bulbs.
What the installation involves
We run new lighting circuits from your consumer unit, thread cables neatly through walls and ceilings (minimising disruption and making-good), fit fire-rated recesses where needed to protect floor insulation, install and test every fitting, and tidy all exposed cabling. For kitchens, bathrooms and outdoor locations we ensure every fitting has the correct IP rating and zone protection. For living areas we can add dimmers and smart switches so you adjust brightness and colour temperature from an app — great for setting the mood or saving more energy at night.
Room-by-room guidance
Kitchen: Downlights over the worktop for task light, plus under-cabinet strips for safety and ambiance. Expect 6–12 spots depending on size. Bathroom: Humidity-rated fittings, usually a central pendant plus mirror lights (essential for shaving or makeup). Bedrooms: Softer ambient light from recesses or pendants, bedside reading lights, and dimmers for relaxation. Lounge: Layered — central recesses for ambient, table lamps for reading, accent lighting on shelves or artwork. Hallways & stairs: Regular spacing of downlights or LED strips for safe navigation.
Cost and time
A straightforward room lighting install (6–8 downlights + control) typically costs £250–450 depending on cable routing complexity and whether you want smart controls added. A full-house lighting refresh (whole home rewired, multiple rooms, dimmers and app control) usually runs £1,500–2,500. We work around your schedule, contain the dust, and the entire job is tested and certified when we leave.
Smart controls and future-proofing
Adding wireless smart switches (zigbee or WiFi-based) lets you control lights from your phone, set routines (lights gradually brighten in the morning, fade at night), or use voice commands. Installation is simple and non-invasive since smart switches sit on top of traditional wiring. It's one of the cheapest ways to future-proof your home and cut energy waste.
