Ditch the gas. Upgrade to ultra-efficient, smart electric heating systems that give you total control over your home’s comfort and energy bills.

For decades, electric heating had a bad reputation. Old storage heaters were bulky, ugly, and famously difficult to control—releasing heat during the day when you were at work and running cold by the evening when you needed them. Those days are over.

Modern electric heating is sleek, intelligent, and 100% efficient at the point of use. With the UK moving away from fossil fuels, and with gas prices remaining volatile, electrifying your heating is the smartest way to future-proof your home. At Yare Electrical, we specialise in the supply, installation, and repair of next-generation heating systems for properties across Norfolk.

Still Using Old Storage Heaters?

Modern High Heat Retention heaters are up to 27% cheaper to run than standard storage heaters.

Understanding “Lot 20” Compliance

You may hear our engineers mention “Lot 20.” This refers to the EcoDesign Directive, a piece of legislation that changed the heating industry forever. Since 2018, all new electric space heaters installed in the UK must meet strict efficiency targets.

This means we only install heaters that feature intelligent controls, such as:

  • Open Window Detection: The heater automatically stops if it senses a sudden temperature drop (like a window being opened), so you don’t pay to heat the street.
  • Adaptive Start: The heater learns how long your room takes to warm up. If you set it for 20°C at 7am, it knows exactly when to switch on to hit that target on time.
  • Wi-Fi Control: Manage your heating from your phone, wherever you are.

High Heat Retention Storage Heaters

If you live in a flat or a rural property without mains gas, storage heaters are often the most economical choice. However, the technology has changed drastically.

We install Dimplex Quantum and similar High Heat Retention (HHR) models. Unlike the old “bricks in a metal box,” these modern units are highly insulated. They charge up overnight using cheap off-peak electricity (Economy 7 or Economy 10) but retain that heat perfectly until you ask for it.

  • The Benefit: You get the cost savings of cheap overnight tariffs without running out of heat in the evening.
  • The Fan Assist: They use whisper-quiet fans to push heat into the room quickly when needed, rather than just passively radiating it.

Electric Radiators (Direct Acting)

For rooms used less frequently (like guest bedrooms or home offices) or for homes with good insulation, direct-acting electric radiators are ideal. They heat up rapidly and offer precise temperature control.

We install ceramic-core and oil-filled electric radiators that look just like stylish central heating radiators but require no pipework. Each unit has its own thermostat, meaning you can have the living room at 21°C and the bedroom at 16°C without wasting energy.

Electric Underfloor Heating

There is nothing quite like the luxury of a warm floor on a cold Norfolk morning. We specialise in Electric Underfloor Heating (Mats & Cables), which is perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, and conservatories.

Unlike “wet” systems which require digging up concrete, electric mats are thin and can often be laid directly under tiles or engineered wood during a renovation. Combined with a smart thermostat, they provide an invisible, even heat source that frees up wall space by removing radiators.

The Solar Connection: Free Heating

The biggest criticism of electric heating is the cost per unit of electricity. However, if you combine electric heating with Solar Panels, the game changes.

We can install Solar Power Diverters (like the myenergi eddi). These clever devices detect when you are generating excess solar power (that would normally be sent to the grid) and automatically divert it to your electric heaters or hot water immersion cylinder. This effectively gives you free heating and hot water whenever the sun shines.

Installation & Disposal Services

Replacing heating systems is heavy work. Old storage heaters are filled with dense, heavy bricks and can sometimes contain asbestos (in pre-1974 models).

Our Installation Process

  1. Survey: We calculate the heat loss of your room to ensure the new heater is powerful enough to keep you warm.
  2. Removal: We safely disconnect and remove your old heaters. We handle the heavy lifting and responsible disposal of the old bricks.
  3. Wiring Check: Modern heaters often require a permanent 24-hour supply (for the digital display) as well as the off-peak supply. We may need to modify your wiring or upgrade your consumer unit to accommodate the new load.
  4. Setup: We don’t just hang it on the wall and leave. We program the timer and show you how to use the app controls before we go.

Electric Boilers

Do you have a “wet” central heating system (radiators and pipes) but want to get rid of gas? We can replace your gas boiler with a compact Electric Boiler. These units are almost silent, 99.8% efficient, and require no flue (chimney), making them perfect for flats or listed buildings where gas flues are restricted.
