Why Install EV Chargers at Your Business?
Installing charging points is not just a “green box-ticking exercise.” It delivers tangible commercial value:
1. Employee Retention & Recruitment
With favourable Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax rates, many employees are switching to EVs. Offering workplace charging is a highly desirable perk that costs the business very little but adds significant value to your staff package.
2. Generate Revenue (Monetisation)
Turn your car park into a profit centre. We install OCPP-compliant chargers that allow you to set your own pricing tariffs. You can offer free charging to staff while charging visitors or the public a premium rate. The revenue generated can pay for the installation cost in as little as 2-3 years.
3. Fleet Savings
If you operate company vans, switching to electric can slash your fuel costs by up to 80% per mile. However, this only works if your vehicles are fully charged and ready to go every morning. Our high-speed depot chargers ensure your fleet is never stuck with a flat battery.
Our Charging Solutions
We don’t believe in “one size fits all.” A hotel has very different needs to a delivery depot. We tailor the hardware to your usage:
- Fast AC Chargers (7kW – 22kW): The standard for workplace and destination charging. A 7kW unit adds ~30 miles of range per hour (perfect for 9-5 staff), while a 22kW unit (requires three-phase power) can charge a van fully in 3-4 hours.
- Rapid DC Chargers (50kW+): Essential for short-stop locations like service stations or taxi ranks. These units can charge a vehicle from 20% to 80% in under 40 minutes.
- Dual Socket Pedestals: Ideal for car parks, allowing two vehicles to charge simultaneously from a single post, saving space and installation costs.
The Technical Challenge: Load Balancing
The biggest fear for business owners is: “Will plugging in 10 cars blow my main fuse?”
This is a valid concern. Adding EV chargers adds a massive electrical load to your building. However, Yare Electrical solves this with Dynamic Load Management (DLM).
We install smart chargers that “talk” to your main electricity meter. If your building’s energy usage spikes (e.g., everyone turns on the AC or machinery), the chargers automatically lower their output to protect your supply. When the building load drops, the chargers ramp back up to full speed. This allows you to install more charge points without paying thousands for a grid supply upgrade.
Our Installation Process
We handle the entire project in-house, ensuring quality control at every stage.
Stage 1: Site Survey & Design
We assess your existing distribution board capacity and incoming supply. We calculate the maximum demand and design a cable route that minimizes disruption to your car park.
Stage 2: Civil Works (Groundworks)
Unlike many electricians, we don’t ask you to hire a separate builder. We manage the trenching, concrete bases for pedestals, and resurfacing of your car park. We ensure all ducting is buried to the correct depth and warning tape is installed.
Stage 3: Electrical Installation
We install the chargers, dedicated distribution circuits, and essential safety devices (Type A RCDs and Pen Fault Protection). All work complies with the IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment.
Stage 4: Commissioning & Software
We set up the back-office software (such as Monta, Fuuse, or manufacturer apps). This gives you a dashboard where you can see exactly how much energy is being used, set pricing tariffs, and monitor the health of your chargers.
OZEV Grants: The Workplace Charging Scheme
The government wants to help you switch. The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS) is a voucher-based scheme that provides support towards the up-front costs of the purchase and installation of EV charge points.
- The Value: You can claim 75% of the total cost of purchase and installation, capped at £350 per socket.
- The Cap: You can claim for up to 40 sockets across all your sites (that’s a potential saving of £14,000).
- Eligibility: You must be a registered business, charity, or public sector organisation with dedicated off-street parking.
As OZEV Approved Installers, Yare Electrical can guide you through the application process and ensure your claim is successful.
