Commercial Security & Outside Lighting in Norwich
Secure your perimeter, protect your staff, and deter intruders. We design and install intelligent external lighting systems for businesses across Norfolk.
During the British winter, your business premises spend more time in the dark than in the light. A poorly lit exterior is an open invitation to vandalism, theft, and anti-social behaviour. Furthermore, as a business owner, you have a legal “Duty of Care” to ensure that staff and visitors can navigate your car parks and walkways safely without risk of tripping or injury.
At Yare Electrical, we balance security with responsibility. We install robust LED Security Lighting that creates a safe environment while complying with light pollution regulations.
Is Your Car Park Safe?
Security Lighting: The First Line of Defence
Lighting is the most cost-effective deterrent against crime. We design systems that work in harmony with your other security measures:
1. CCTV Integration (White Light)
Old-fashioned orange (Sodium) street lights make CCTV footage grainy and wash out colours. We install White Light LED floodlights. This high-colour-rendering light allows your cameras to capture facial features and car number plates in full colour, vastly increasing the chance of prosecution if a crime occurs.
2. Motion Detection (PIR)
We strategically place PIR (Passive Infrared) sensors at entry points. The sudden flood of bright light when a person approaches startles intruders—who thrive on concealment—and alerts security guards or neighbours to suspicious activity.
3. Dusk-to-Dawn (Photocell)
For perimeter fencing and main entrances, we use photocells that automatically turn lights on at sunset and off at sunrise. This ensures you never arrive at a dark building, and you never waste electricity leaving lights on during the day.
Light Pollution & Statutory Nuisance
You cannot just blast light everywhere. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, artificial light can be classified as a “Statutory Nuisance” if it intrudes into neighbours’ windows or dazzles drivers.
We use “Full Cut-Off” optics and asymmetric lenses. This directs the light downwards exactly where it is needed (on the ground) and prevents “Sky Glow” (light spilling upwards). This ensures your business remains a good neighbour and complies with local council planning restrictions.
Car Park & Pathway Lighting
We provide comprehensive ground-lighting solutions:
- LED Columns: For large car parks, we install 4m-6m columns. We handle the trenching, cabling, and concrete bases.
- Bollards: For pedestrian walkways, low-level LED bollards provide guidance without glare.
- Loading Bays: We install impact-resistant wall packs that can withstand accidental knocks from delivery cages.
Efficiency Tip: If we are digging trenches for new lighting columns, this is the most cost-effective time to install cabling for Commercial EV Charging Points.
Maintenance & Reliability
External electrics face the harshest conditions. Water ingress is the number one cause of commercial RCD tripping. We ensure longevity by:
- Using IP65 or IP67 rated fittings (dust and water tight).
- Using Steel Wire Armoured (SWA) cable for all underground runs to prevent damage from digging or rodents.
- Resin-filling all underground joints to create a permanent waterproof seal.
